enlightment

Question
I did read some buddhist phylosophy books about enlightment, but they say nothing except that you can  know what enlightment is only when you are enlightened. This dosen't help much .Please tell me what you know enlightment is and, also , what is the goal of transcendental meditation .

Answer
tudor, Spiritual leaders who seem to know what they are talking about agree that there is a hidden human truth at the center of life, and that there are many paths leading to it.

They also agree to a remarkable degree on the characteristics of a life lived in the light of that truth.

An enlightened person seems to be one who has life-supporting characteristics, such as being helpful, not exhibiting undo anger, and so forth.

Indian philosophy is much more specific, presenting a state of life lived in the unity of two fullnesses: inner bliss, joy, and intelligence along with outer freedom and universal comprehension.

Transcendental Meditation is one very efficient approach towards achieving enlightment. It is just one path among many; it is like getting somewhere by using a jet plane instead of roller skates. TM allows the mind in a natural way to release acquired stress and easily gain the state that Indian philosophy calls "nirvana". This is a settled state of mind, in which the body is at rest but the mind is fully awake, in which only consciousness is left. Repeatedly experiencing that state gives one more flexibility and equanimity in daily life, leading to a natural state of enlightenment, in which fullness is an all-time reality.
