Question
I have been meditating for about a year. I still struggle to find the perfect position to meditate in. I sit in crosslegged position but my ankles tend to sore in this pose. I meditate for about an hour in the morning. I am not flexible enough for the half or full lotus postion. What position do you recommend?
thanks for your help
Answer
Hello Paul.. there are several yoga sites on the web with diagrams outlining various easy postures. I just looked at several by searching at www.google.com. But I must admit that I didn't find any that I felt would be too useful for your purposes. So I recommend a little book which I've found incredibly helpful over the years.
"Yoga, Youth, and Reincarnation" by Jess Stearn.

This title should be in most public libraries as the book has been around for a few decades, and has proved to be popular.
Myself, these days I meditate while sitting in a comfortable chair in the middle of the living room. I meditate while walking in the woods or even on a street at night. The latter kind of meditation is known as a moving or active meditation, and has very ancient roots (Sanskrit = karma yoga).
Some people also find a warm-to-hot bath helps to loosen the muscles and quiet the mind. I think the key in meditation is to not get caught up in any particular system, but to experiment, stay open-minded, and try to discover whatever works best for yourself.
