mediation

Question
QUESTION: I started meditating two weeks ago.. Every since I have been having really light sleeps at night and arent getting the same rest I used to get.. WHy is this?

ANSWER: craig, Thank you for your question.

You don't say what type of meditation you have been practicing, so I may be limited in how I can respond.

In general, all aspects of the brain and the mind are interconnected. Any mental activity can affect the quality of sleep at night.

I suspect that you already knew this, and are really asking some other question. Unfortunately, I cannot yet read minds , so I don't know what it is that you want to know.

QUESTION: David. I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I have been using the Recliner Chair Meditation Technique, Meditating with my eyes open.  I have been doing this about 20 min a day for the past 2 1/2 weeks.. My sleep pattern has not been the same since. I have had really light sleeps often waking up in the middle of the night.. Last night I had a weird experience. I awoke in my sleep to notice i was sleeping with my eyes open. It was a little scary, but noticed i was in  a sort of meditation state.   What should i do to fix this problem. This is not healthy

Answer
craig,

Sorry, I've never heard of the Recliner Chair Meditation Technique, unless you just mean sitting in a chair doing nothing.

If you are having sleep problems from whatever it is that you are doing, I recommend that you learn a standard meditation technique. There are many to choose from, although few that have been validated by scientific research.

I recommend Transcendental Meditation (www.tm.org) and NSR Meditation (www.nsrusa.org), which have been shown to reduce anxiety and bring about a state of self-actualization.

For more details about these techniques, please explore their websites.

If you feel that what you are doing is not healthy, stop doing it.

I hope this helps.
